The Challenge

In Canada, most pharmacist-patient interactions beyond the physical counter were limited to unstructured phone calls — undocumented, disconnected from patient records, and dependent on catching the right person at the right time. Patients had no secure digital channel to consult their pharmacist, transfer medical documents, or manage routine requests like prescription transfers, vacation supply, or vaccination records without a call or an in-person visit. For pharmacists, that absence of digital infrastructure created compliance and documentation gaps in an industry governed by strict health information privacy law.

What We Built

WebOps built PharmaPlace as a PHIPA-compliant platform with two connected sides: a patient app and a pharmacy portal. Patients create an account, upload their health card, and choose their home pharmacy — then chat with their pharmacist over end-to-end encrypted messaging, consult by video call, and submit requests through a request centre covering seven common needs: prescriptions, Rx transfers, medical records, tax forms, frequent dispensing forms, vacation supply, and vaccinations. Pharmacies get their own portal to manage incoming requests, chat and video with patients, and control email/SMS notification preferences — all built on compliance architecture that meets Canadian health data privacy standards.

The Impact

PharmaPlace gave Canadian patients a secure digital channel to reach their pharmacist from anywhere, cutting out in-person visits for requests that never needed one. For pharmacists, the platform replaced informal phone-based communication with a documented, PHIPA-compliant record of every interaction — built to meet the data privacy requirements that regulated Canadian healthcare demands, and free for pharmacies to adopt from day one.
